Syllabus Suggestion:
I'd suggest we add a guest lecturer by an upcoming photographer. My suggestion would be Holly Andres.
This would be for Class 7. I was thinking the following topics would be interesting to hear her talk about:
1) Starting and expanding work in Portland galleries
a) What worked (networking, variable portfolios- different portfolios for different galleries)
b) What didn't
2) Forays into non-gallery work (does she consider other areas to augment her income)
3) Forays outside the Portland market (areas where she has found success in growing beyond Portland)

ReplyDeletesorry that I took so long to try to look at your links. unfortunately all them, except for the Andres Serrano don't seem to work.
maybe we can take a few moments in one of the next classes to look at these artists.
I'd love to talk about Serrano and LaChappelle, two artists that have carved a unique niche for themselves -- Serrano consistently confronting cultural standards of decency, and LaChappelle such a highly successful commercial/editorial artist, trying also to claim his place as a "fine art" artist too.
